Why Gardens Need A Mum and A Weekend Boot Camp Workout

Under the shade of our dogwood tree, this mum has flourished for several years. I am not certain where it came from but seeing its location at the base of the tree where I would never place a plant, I’ll surmise that my feathered friends played a big part–guerrilla gardeners of the skies.

Along with asters and goldenrods, chrysanthemums add color to the fall garden at a time when it is lacking. I have three, true perennial mums and seven others that have been kind enough to return for the past decade. I believe every garden needs a mum!
