Staging the Forest Floor

Photography is not always about capturing the moment,  although I do believe that a legion of the finest photos are created that way. Sometimes one has to do a little staging: assembling a still life, having a model sit for a portrait, and planning photo shoots are a few examples.

On this particular day, it was already late in the morning, and the skies were covered with clouds which meant most of my photos would turn out flat, no depth. I am so enamored of moss and wanted to get a good shot of it but felt that it needed something to make it pop. Just as I was about to walk away from it, I saw this brightly colored leaf. Et voila!

  1. The addition of that lovely bright orange leaf really works well and also gives a nice Autumnal feel to the image. I love the lush thick green carpet of moss – and the lighter green lichen too!
