Twining Vines

I was reading once that vines either twine to the left or the right depending on the type of vine. For example, bittersweet twines from left to right and Hall’s honeysuckle from right to left–scientist’s do not know why this is so.  The above photo is a perennial sweet pea which is twining left to right–I’ll have to take more notice of this phenomenon.
