I Have Proved The Existence of Forgetting & 10 Things To Do This Summer

When does it begin? The Forgetting. I always prided myself on my ability to remember things: where I’ve placed the keys, lyrics from songs, lines from poetry, locking the door, turning off the iron, characters from literature, paying bills . . . I never understood why my husband could lose track of his glasses or his checkbook or his wallet or why my girlfriend could leave the car running with the keys locked inside!

Dapper G and I are very aware of the concept of exercising one’s brain. To say we are avid readers is a pretty mild statement. We engage in games like scrabble, sudoku, and  solitaire. We both  write to some degree, have hobbies galore, exercise regularly, and eat properly. We go on vacations to different places, different countries. So, how and when does The Forgetting begin?

What prompted this observation is the recent loss of my prescription sunglasses. I retraced the scene when I switched from my sunglasses to regular ones. I mean–I relived the scene!  But just at the moment when I snap the eyeglass case shut, my memory fails. It fails and I cannot grasp it from within. It’s lost just like my sunglasses.

And      I      don’t      like      it!

  1. Stress, hormones. . . I can give you a lot of excuses, I mean reasons, for it. I’ve used them all.

    • Christine – you are right: hormones is one of the “reasons.” wink, wink
Chrissy–yes, I do like your additions, my good friend!
      Ed & Jaye–thanks, I hope #5 happens too!

  2. What a concept my friend, but I think you mistakenly did not put a few more things in that summer list………..listen to the rain, listen to the breakers on the beach, enjoy the sun sets and the sun rises. Watch the wind and the birds, feel the change of the temperature and enjoy the cool air that flashes across your face……all and more for a great forever friend.
