In Search of Pecos Bill and Peyote

Funny but my first thoughts upon looking at the desert were of Pecos Bill and his taming of the Southwest. I kept looking out of the corner of my eye as we drove across the Mojave Desert expecting to see a young boy running alongside a pack of coyotes. I wanted to believe it.

But chances of seeing Pecos Bill were the same as finding peyote in Nevada. 😉

Having visited Nevada for the first time got me thinking about the tall tale of Pecos Bill and Carlos Castaneda’s The Teachings of Don Juan–both books taking the reader on unbelievable and mind-boggling journeys through the Southwest.

Yes, I want to believe Pecos Bill lassoed a tornado or that Don Juan taught Carlos the nature of reality. And as we cruised through the mellow landscape, I caught a quick glimpse through the waves of heat bending light of shiny spurs caught up in a whirlwind of dust.

Quote of the Day for YOUIt is a far, far better thing to have a firm anchor in nonsense than to put out on the troubled seas of thought.       ~John Kenneth Galbraith
