Weekly Photo Challenge: Shadow

When I was young, I never gave the intense Hawaiian sunshine a moment’s thought. It was sunny and I was outdoors–it was as simple as that. I do not recall ever having to root out the coolness of the shade.

Today, I still cannot get enough sunshine. Except now I can barely withstand the brightness and  intense heat without having to be in the safety of the shade.  I do enjoy, however, watching the sun-worshipers and the children entertaining the sun. There is something very comforting about the sunshine.

As the Maori’s say: Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.

  1. I grew up on Oahu–1958-1962! The year before it became a state. I remember it well though–good memories. My father was in the Navy–we lived in Waikiki, Pearl Harbor and then across the street from Hickam Air Force Base. Many years ago–the days when you could back your car up onto the beach and tailgate. I can even do the hula (secret information).

  2. Did you grow up in Hawaii? Where did you live? My husband grew up there, and that is where we met. His family still lives there.
