Bicycle Sharing System of Milan

Milan has a fantastic bike rental system called BikeMi. There are three types of subscriptions (as they call them):

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION:    36 €   ($49.53)
WEEKLY SUBSCRIPTION:       6 €   ($  8.25)
DAILY SUBSCRIPTION:     2,50 €   ($  3.44)

There are 105 locations throughout the city where one can drop off, pick  up, or leave the bike temporarily–just pick a spot on the map closest to your destination.

I took this photo with my point-and-shoot a few years back. We didn’t know about the bike sharing at the time.  It’s a terrific, green idea and great for tourists and cities alike. I would like to see this implemented in some of our largest cities here in the U.S. Possible? Oui o Non?

  1. I love the idea. I don’t know if it is possible because (I’m sure this will offend somebody, so sorry) Americans tend to pride ownership of things too much. We don’t share well with others. That said, I think it would be great. You also reminded me of a bike in Japan story that I will have to post about at some point. Tee hee hee.
