This is me standing on Waikiki Beach in the late 50s. There’s a nice, unobstructed view of Diamond Head in the background.
Here is the same view today (2010) from a similar spot.
When I returned to Hawaii in 1980, I was very disappointed. The traffic was horrendous as the crowds were on the beach. Back then, people used to back their cars onto the beach and “tailgate” from the trunk. We would take drives after church on Sundays to where there were secluded beaches. Now it’s a big tourist destination, and . . .
