Jamaica Man, Mon!

OK, I’d be lying if I told you that the “Rasta” man didn’t provide some fascination for me–on many different levels. Rastafarian-ism is a cult based on the belief that Ras Tafari or Hailie Selassie, is the messiah, and Africa, the promised land. Now, how it ended up in Jamaica is a long, very sensitive topic–for another day.

Now, my fascination lies in the dreadlocks. According to Wikipedia (is that information even valid?), the dreads are symbolic of the Lion of Judah. Don’t really know.

I just find these Shirley Templed, noodled-locks quite intriguing! I mean–how do they even form them? And what is the washing regimen??? So many questions . . .

Wish I had had time to sit down and talk to a Rasta man about their religion, or their philosophy of life. Perhaps next time.

Quote of the Day for YOU:  But since, alas! frail Beauty must decay,  Curl’d or uncurl’d, since Locks will turn to grey (v. 24-25)                                                                                                                                                 ~Alexander Pope

  1. Hi I was looking at your blog, specially the picture at the bottom of the page, the Rastaman with glasses. Was this picture taken in the Montego bay craft market? It looks like my friend who I have not seen in over 15 years, Brian McNish. Did you ask his name by any chance?
