Every day at our hotel resort in Negril, Jamaica, the buffet room would be adorned with these great watermelon sculptures.
OK. Someone with a “vision” is certainly having a lot of fun! I wouldn’t like to think that he was “made” to do this every day! Geesh.
I remember when my father used to carve radishes into roses. He also made watermelon baskets and filled them with summer fruits. After having watched him do it, I made a few myself for special occasions. But I couldn’t quite replicate the way he made the handle look woven–didn’t have his skilled hand. Maybe I’ll try it again this year using a pumpkin carving knife–it will be much safer too. Perhaps this would be a good ploy to get those children of yours to eat their fruits and vegetables! Hmm . . . not a bad idea?
