October Storm

I don’t know why I wore sandals to work today–after all, it was 48 degrees when I left home this morning. (What the hell was I thinking?)

This afternoon when I was on lookout for the last school bus, my toes got ridiculously cold and a little wet. But I yelled out to some of the kids anyway,”Where’s your jacket . . . Did you leave the house like that?” (And where are your shoes, Mrs. D?)

At home, I noticed a fish and sausage stew on the burner . (Yes!) And then I did a couple quick fist pumps and dumped my school bag on one of the kitchen chairs.

Now that my belly’s full, and I’m toasting under an afghan with my shearling slippers on–my toes still feel somewhat numb. Gosh, I’m missin’ summer already!
