Born to Bark

I find tree bark quite fascinating.

I remember collecting large pieces of birch bark on a trip to Massachusetts some time back in the 70s.

Of course, with good intentions to make some wonderful creation from it.

I like the way a tree heals itself: the formation of that tiny berm that forms at the wound.

All the different shapes and patterns and lumps and peels–

the colors . . .

and, oh, the way it feels!

  1. Your third photo resembles a dermatologist’s worst case or a hippo’s hide! What wonderful textures and palettes, my friend.
